Under the Late Summer Sunshine was created during the period when my use of UV-reactive pigments became increasingly integrated into my painting practice. Like Color of Autumn and Sweet Memories in Cherries, this work explores how UV-reactive pigments can enhance the brilliance, luminosity, and emotional resonance of color even under ordinary illumination. Rather than depicting grapes as a simple landscape motif, I sought to capture the abundance of late summer through the interplay of sunlight and color. The translucent grapes absorb and reflect light, transforming an ordinary vineyard scene into a luminous celebration of nature’s vitality. Created with oil paint and UV-reactive pigments, the painting unfolds through two interconnected visual layers. Under ordinary illumination, the UV-reactive pigments enrich the purity and intensity of the colors, allowing the warm reds, yellows, and greens to radiate with exceptional brilliance. Under ultraviolet light, another hidden image gradually emerges, revealing an invisible narrative that coexists with the visible one. These two realities work together as complementary dimensions of a single painting. Under the Late Summer Sunshine reflects an important stage in the development of my artistic language, demonstrating how UV-reactive pigments can deepen the experience of color not only through hidden imagery but also within ordinary light. The work was selected as the cover artwork for the Art Poetry Book Competition organized by the Barbagelata Contemporary Art Foundation, recognizing its successful integration of vibrant color, light, and poetic visual expression.
