The Language of Light

Jennifer Lee explores light as a medium through which memory, perception, and traces of existence are revealed. Building on a strong foundation in figurative painting, she became deeply fascinated by the reflections and refractions of light in crystal and water, recognizing that color is not absolute but can be perceived and interpreted differently according to the wavelengths of light.

This realization led her to incorporate UV-reactive pigments into her work. Under visible and ultraviolet light, a single painting reveals different yet interconnected colors, images, and narratives, allowing multiple visual realities to coexist within the same work.

This exploration later evolved into three series that employ UV light: Light – Time and Memory, Crystal Flower, and Beyond Visibility. Originating in figurative painting, her practice has expanded toward abstraction through light and crystalline structures, developing a distinctive visual language that moves between the visible and invisible, figuration and abstraction.

Guided by the belief that “everything that exists leaves a trace,” Jennifer Lee uses light to reveal memories, emotions, and unseen realities that exist beyond ordinary perception.
