Description

When Spring Comes represents the culmination of my representational flower series created with UV-reactive pigments. Inspired by the quiet arrival of spring, the work celebrates the beauty of flowers while exploring the coexistence of two different visual realities within a single painting. Under ordinary light, the flowers reveal their full richness through carefully balanced composition, luminous color, and delicate detail. Under ultraviolet light, however, another image gradually emerges, transforming the atmosphere of the work and revealing a different narrative hidden beneath the visible surface. The two visual experiences are not opposites but complementary layers, inviting viewers to move between what is seen and what remains concealed. Rather than using UV-reactive pigments as a visual effect, I employ them as a means of expanding perception. The painting asks whether light itself can hold multiple realities, and whether beauty changes according to the way it is perceived. Selected for the XV Florence Biennale (2025), this work represents the culmination of my representational exploration of flowers before my practice gradually shifted toward a more conceptual investigation of memory, light, and crystallized forms.
