Description

When Longing Comes II reflects on the quiet beauty of memory through the stillness of an early spring landscape. A calm lake mirrors the pastel colors of the evening sky, dissolving the boundary between earth and heaven, while the surrounding trees stand as silent witnesses to moments that have already passed. Inspired by a simple walk with the artist’s young daughter, the painting transforms an ordinary scene into a meditation on the passage of time. The gentle movement of reeds in the spring breeze and the image of a child dancing freely become symbols of innocence that can never be fully reclaimed, yet never completely disappear. Rather than expressing sorrow, the work embraces longing as a form of gratitude. The landscape preserves an irreplaceable moment, allowing memory to remain alive through light, reflection, and color. The lake becomes both a mirror of nature and a mirror of the heart, quietly holding the traces of love that time cannot erase. As part of the Origins series, When Longing Comes II reveals Jennifer Lee’s early exploration of landscape as a vessel for personal memory, where nature becomes inseparable from the emotions and relationships that give it meaning.
