Temptation of Lotus Leaves is one of the early representative works in my exploration of UV-reactive painting. Created in 2021, the work marks the beginning of my investigation into light as an essential artistic language, extending beyond the visible surface of traditional painting. Rather than focusing on the lotus flower itself, I turned my attention to the lotus leaves that quietly sustain its life. Often overlooked, they endure intense sunlight, wind, and rain, making the blossom possible. Through this shift in perspective, the work reflects on resilience, sacrifice, and the unseen presence that supports visible beauty. Created with oil paint and UV-reactive pigments, the painting unfolds through two interconnected visual layers. Under ordinary illumination, the expressive colors and organic forms reveal the quiet strength of the lotus leaves. Under ultraviolet light, another hidden image gradually emerges, revealing an invisible narrative that coexists with the visible one. These two realities become complementary dimensions of a single painting, expanding the viewer’s perception through light. As one of the formative works in my UV-reactive practice, Temptation of Lotus Leaves established the foundation for my continued exploration of invisible realities. It introduced light not simply as illumination, but as a language capable of revealing what remains unseen within the visible world.
