Sweet Memories in Cherries was created during the period when my exploration of UV-reactive pigments was becoming more established. Like Color of Autumn, this work reflects my discovery that UV-reactive pigments could enhance the brilliance and depth of color under ordinary illumination while also revealing another visual dimension under ultraviolet light. Rather than presenting cherries as a simple still life, I sought to capture the vivid vitality and warmth they evoke. The luminous reds, balanced against a restrained composition, transform an everyday subject into a celebration of color, memory, and the richness of nature. Created with oil paint and UV-reactive pigments, the painting unfolds through two interconnected visual layers. Under ordinary illumination, the UV-reactive pigments intensify the purity and luminosity of the cherries, allowing their vibrant reds to become even more radiant. Under ultraviolet light, another hidden image gradually emerges, revealing an invisible narrative that coexists with the visible one. Together, these two realities expand the expressive possibilities of a single painting. Sweet Memories in Cherries represents an important stage in my exploration of UV-reactive painting. It further confirmed that UV-reactive pigments could enrich not only hidden imagery but also the visual experience of paintings viewed under ordinary light, becoming an integral part of my artistic language.
