Description
Projection is composed of four individual canvas panels, each painted separately while continuing seamlessly into the next. The narrow divisions between the panels intentionally remain visible, emphasizing how a single reality is assembled from fragmented perceptions. Rather than depicting the landscape itself, the painting presents only its reflection upon water. Trees, rocks, sky, and autumn foliage dissolve into shimmering patterns, creating a world where the reflected image feels more tangible than the unseen original. Inspired by questions of memory, consciousness, and existence, the work suggests that reality may be as fluid as a reflection upon water. The segmented structure reinforces this idea: although each canvas exists independently, together they create a unified image, much as individual memories and experiences shape our understanding of reality.
Artist Note
[Projection] This world sometimes feels unreal. War and starvation on the other side of the world are undeniably happening, yet today I continue to live the life given to me. Someday, I too will experience loss here, and one day I will leave that loss to those I love. These things happen around me all the time, yet I forget them because, for now, they seem unreal to me. I sometimes paint images reflected on the surface of water. Unlike the life of oblivion I live now, the images reflected in the water sometimes feel more real. Perhaps my life, too, is a hologram projected into three-dimensional spacetime, as some scientists suggest. I think I exist. But is that because I truly exist? What is the meaning of life? Many people define life through different words and ideas, but have they really found its meaning? Perhaps life is simply living, like the figures within a hologram…
