Ocean Planet With Three Suns I marks a turning point in the Sea of Three Suns series. Rather than depicting the experience of being within the ocean itself, I began to contemplate the ocean planet as a whole, viewing it from an imagined distance. Created with oil paint and UV-reactive pigments, the work explores the relationship between light and matter through a heavily layered impasto technique. Thick applications of paint allow the surface to respond to changing angles of illumination, producing subtle shifts in color, shadow, and texture. The painting itself becomes an active surface where light continually transforms the viewer’s perception. The blue planet represents not a physical place, but an inner world where imagination, memory, and consciousness converge. The surrounding light suggests the unseen presence of multiple suns, while the planet’s textured surface evokes the constant interaction between light, water, and time. This work reflects my growing interest in treating light not only as a subject to be depicted, but as an active element that changes the artwork itself according to the viewer’s position and the surrounding environment.
