Beyond Visibility
2025
I See You III is one of the defining works from my representational flower series and was selected for the XV Florence Biennale (2025). The painting celebrates the overwhelming presence of a single flower, inviting viewers into an intimate encounter where observation becomes a dialogue. Rather than depicting the flower as a botanical subject, I sought to express the emotional experience of seeing. The enlarged composition removes the surrounding context, allowing the flower to occupy the viewer’s entire field of vision and transform into a living presence. The title, I See You, suggests a reciprocal act of recognition. The viewer observes the flower, while the flower quietly returns the gaze. Created with oil paint and UV-reactive pigments, the work unfolds through two interconnected visual layers. Under ordinary illumination, it reveals refined realism, luminous color, and carefully orchestrated detail. Under ultraviolet light, another image gradually emerges, exposing an invisible narrative that exists alongside the visible one. These two realities do not compete with each other but complete a single pictorial experience. As one of the culminating achievements of my representational flower series, I See You III demonstrates the fullest integration of realism, light, and invisible imagery within my early artistic practice. Before my work expanded toward the conceptual exploration of memory and crystallized forms, this painting marked the point at which UV-reactive figurative painting reached its highest level of technical and conceptual development in my oeuvre.
[I See You III] You are dressed in brilliant red, and you always make my heart skip a beat. Your ineffable scent is imprinted on my retina, telling a story through hundreds of petals. You stir my soul and make me forget this chaotic world for a moment. Now I look only at you, and you look only at me.
