I See You Ⅰ marks the beginning of my I See You series, which explores the relationship between perception, light, memory, and the fragile presence of living things. The work began with a simple act of looking closely at a flower and discovering within its translucent petals something that seemed almost human and alive. The red veins running through the petals suggested blood beneath the skin, transforming the flower from a familiar botanical subject into a presence that seemed to look back at me. This moment of recognition became central to the series: seeing is not merely observing something from a distance, but encountering another existence and becoming conscious of the trace it leaves within us. Through luminous pinks, reds, and translucent layers of color, the painting captures the desire to hold onto a fleeting moment before it disappears. The flower exists between delicacy and vitality, permanence and disappearance, becoming both an object of observation and a vessel for memory. As the first work of the I See You series, this painting established an idea that would continue to develop throughout my later practice: the visible image is only the beginning of perception. Over time, this exploration would expand through UV-reactive pigments, light, and crystalline forms, revealing increasingly complex layers beyond what the eye can ordinarily see.
[I See You I] Your petals have red veins. Do you have red blood just like my blood? The transparent petals gained vitality with red blood. Are you looking at me, too? You’re in my curious eyes. I can’t close my eyes at all. I’m afraid you’ll disappear if I close my eyes for a moment. Please stay with me for a long time.
