Figures in Mosaic Windows marks a significant stage in my exploration of light through UV-reactive painting. Inspired by landscapes reflected and refracted through textured mosaic glass, this work moves beyond the representation of external reality to investigate how light transforms perception and reconstructs the visible world. Rather than depicting a recognizable scene, I fragmented the reflected landscape into countless geometric facets, allowing light, color, and movement to dissolve and reassemble into an abstract visual experience. The image exists between recognition and abstraction, inviting viewers to perceive not the object itself, but the changing nature of light as it passes through crystalline surfaces. Created with oil paint and UV-reactive pigments, the painting unfolds through two interconnected visual layers. Under ordinary illumination, the fragmented composition emphasizes the brilliance of reflected light and the subtle shifts of color created through refraction. Under ultraviolet light, another hidden image gradually emerges, revealing an invisible dimension that coexists with the visible one. These two realities expand the painting beyond a single visual experience. Figures in Mosaic Windows represents the point at which my interest in crystalline structures became a central part of my artistic practice. Through the optical phenomena of reflection, refraction, and the fragmentation of light, I began developing a visual language that would later evolve into my Crystal Flower series, where representational and abstract painting converge through the transformative qualities of light.
