Description

Aspirations I continues Jennifer Lee’s exploration of the relationship between impasto, UV-reactive pigments, and the expressive potential of color. Rather than describing a recognizable subject, the work focuses on the emotional depth created through the interaction of material and light. Thick layers of oil paint build a highly textured surface that responds differently as illumination changes, while UV-reactive pigments intensify the chromatic richness and introduce shifts in luminosity beyond ordinary perception. Countless fragments of light scattered across the canvas evoke aspirations, possibilities, and the quiet energy that accumulates within us over time. Emerging and dissolving across the textured surface, these luminous traces suggest thoughts and desires that may remain unseen yet continue to exist beneath conscious awareness. Through the physical presence of paint, Aspirations I explores how texture, color, and changing light can create both spatial depth and emotional resonance. The work reflects Jennifer Lee’s continuing investigation into the boundary between the visible and invisible, where light becomes a means of revealing what cannot be expressed through recognizable forms alone.

Artist Note

[Aspirations Ⅰ] I have come to realize that every moment of my life is filled with aspiration. There is a desire to be loved and accepted by someone, a desire to be free from the things that bind me, and a desire to heal and restore my wounds. Above all, my desire for life drives my entire consciousness. I am a mass of aspirations. Right now, in this very moment, I dream of painting this world with my own colors.
