Crystal Flower
2026
The Blossoming series approaches the act of a flower opening not simply as a transformation in nature, but as the moment when a new life enters the world. To the artist, blossoming may appear to be a small and quiet event, yet in its meaning it is no different from the birth of the universe. When a flower unfolds its form and reveals its light and color to the world, an entirely new world begins. Rather than being rendered realistically, the flowers are reborn as crystalline structures that fracture, expand, and radiate outward. The planes and lines extending from the center suggest both the unfolding of petals and the explosive expansion of energy and matter. Intense reds and pinks embody the heat and force of life, while blue and white crystalline facets evoke the moment when that energy is transformed into light and released into the surrounding space. Each work captures a different stage of this transformation. Some flowers are just beginning to open at the center, while others push outward through multiple layers of crystal-like petals. Still others bloom fully, as if releasing their energy across the entire surface of the painting. Through this progression, the flower becomes more than a botanical subject. It becomes a metaphor for the birth, growth, and emergence of life into the world. In Blossoming, to bloom is to be born, and birth is the beginning of a universe. Within the opening of even a single small flower exist creation and expansion, light and energy, and the infinite possibility of life. Through the image of the crystallized flower, the series captures this fleeting moment and reflects on the vastness of the universe contained within the smallest and most familiar act of life.
When a flower blooms, a universe is born.
