Description

Story of the Sky I is inspired by the artist’s belief that the sky is an infinite canvas, constantly revealing new stories through light, color, and atmosphere. Rather than depicting a specific moment in nature, the painting captures an emotional landscape where each sunrise becomes a reflection of inner thoughts and quiet contemplation. The dramatic transition from cool blue light to warm crimson and golden clouds expresses the delicate balance between hope and uncertainty. The sky is portrayed not simply as a natural phenomenon, but as a living presence that communicates through changing colors, inviting each viewer to discover a different meaning shaped by their own memories and emotions. Jennifer Lee believes that every sunrise, every passing cloud, and every fading sunset holds countless untold stories. The wishes made beneath the morning sky, the emotions carried throughout the day, and the silent reflections of evening all become part of this ever-changing canvas. As part of the Origins series, Story of the Sky I reflects Jennifer Lee’s continuing exploration of landscape as a language of emotion, where the visible sky becomes a bridge between the external world and the inner landscape of the human spirit.

Artist Note

[Story of the Sky I] The sky… God’s endless canvas! Every day, every moment, the sky sends me a message. Sometimes it appears in a joyful blue, and sometimes in an unknown shade of purple. I often find myself wanting to read the sky and share the stories of its ever-changing moments with others. Reading a painting is an intensely subjective experience, shaped by each viewer’s emotions and memories, allowing a single image to be interpreted and retold in thousands of different ways. The story of the sky is the same. It is always changing. Hidden in darkness, the sky emerges at dawn, tells countless stories throughout the day, and disappears again beyond the sunset. Perhaps some of the wishes you made while watching the sunrise remain engraved somewhere in the afternoon sky. Following the fluctuations of my emotions and the trembling of my heart, I pick up my brush today and capture the sky, never quite knowing whether what I am painting is God’s canvas or the sound of my own heart.
