Time in a Bottle I was inspired by Jim Croce’s song Time in a Bottle and marks the beginning of my exploration into preserving time within crystal. The work reflects a simple yet profound wish: if time could be gathered and kept inside a crystal vessel, the moments we cherish would never truly disappear. Rather than treating crystal merely as a transparent material, I began to see it as a container capable of holding memory, light, and the passage of time simultaneously. Created with oil paint and UV-reactive pigments, the painting explores how the flowing reflections and refractions within crystal distort ordinary perception, allowing different moments to overlap within a single space. Time becomes something that can be observed rather than merely experienced. This work became an important foundation for my later investigations into crystal, memory, and the relationship between light and time, concepts that would eventually evolve into the Frozen Time and Crystal Flower series.
