Azalea is a meditation on the resilience of memory and its quiet ability to return across the passage of time. Some memories seem to fade beyond reach, gradually losing their shape and clarity as years pass. Yet I believe they are never truly lost. They remain somewhere within us, hidden beneath the surface of consciousness, waiting for a particular light, color, scent, or emotion to awaken them once again.
Like the azalea that blossoms each season, memories can suddenly return with familiar colors, familiar emotions, and unexpected clarity. What seemed forgotten may bloom again, carrying traces of the past into the present. In this sense, the flower is not simply a record of nature, but a portrait of remembrance itself.
Through luminous color, layered backgrounds, and UV-reactive pigments, I sought to create the impression that memory possesses its own light. Even after disappearing from conscious thought, it continues to exist and glow invisibly within us. Under changing conditions of light, the painting reveals different visual states, suggesting that what remains unseen is not necessarily absent.
Azalea also occupies an important transitional position in my artistic journey. It is one of the works created as my representational flower paintings began moving toward the Crystal Flower series. While the flower retains its recognizable organic form, the intensified luminosity, layered color, and increasingly faceted treatment of its surface anticipate the crystalline structures that would later become central to my work.
In this sense, Azalea exists not only between disappearance and return, absence and presence, forgetting and remembrance, but also between two stages of my artistic language. It marks a moment when the flower begins to move beyond representation and toward transformation, eventually becoming a vessel for my exploration of crystal, light, memory, and the invisible.
It is the moment when something believed to be lost quietly reappears, and memory, touched by light, blooms once again.

[Azalea] Falling, fading, disappearing, crossing through the long passage of forgetting, as if nothing had ever happened, you return again in the same form, the same color. When I look at you with an indifferent gaze, you bloom, tremble, and shine once more.
